If companies want to attract and retain talent, their level of inclusivity is an increasingly important factor. Gen Z, a growing percentage of the workforce, particularly values it in finding a new employer, and in staying with one.\n\nSo, how would you rate your company on its inclusiveness? The chances are, even if you\u2019d rate it ten out of ten, there\u2019s probably a lot you\u2019ve missed. The key to digging deeper and truly making a difference is in measuring diversity and inclusion metrics.\n<h2 id=\"what-are-diversity-and-inclusion-metrics\">What are diversity and inclusion metrics?<\/h2>\nFirst, let\u2019s consider what <a href=\"https:\/\/employmenthero.com\/my\/blog\/what-is-diversity-and-inclusion\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">diversity and inclusion look like in practice<\/a>. Diversity is defined as the characteristics or traits of an individual. However, inclusion is how welcoming and safe an environment is for all.\n\nWe can often identify diversity in an environment, but inclusion is far more challenging to identify. To understand how inclusive a workplace is, it requires careful monitoring and conversations. For a company to build an inclusive culture, they need to be open to change. Importantly, they need to listen \u2013 both to what their people tell them and what the wider data explains about their progress.\n\nThe two terms work together. When a workplace recognises and celebrates diversity, that can lead to an inclusive culture. Yet in a world of inequality, it sadly does take work to build that strong culture.
