Getting it right helps build a relationship of trust and prevents disputes that can be costly and damaging to your business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-paragraph-2-m-font-size\">This blog breaks down the key aspects of working hours, overtime, breaks and other regulations you need to know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are the standard working hours in New Zealand?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-paragraph-2-m-font-size\">While there is no single definition of a &#8216;standard&#8217; working week in New Zealand law, common practice for full-time work is a 40-hour week, typically spread over five 8-hour days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Maximum working hours<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-paragraph-2-m-font-size\">The key legal requirement is found in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislation.govt.nz\/act\/public\/2000\/0024\/latest\/DLM6803000.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Employment Relations Act 2000<\/a>. Anything less is typically classified as part-time.
