Those industries are often given an alternative EOFY date (called a \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ird.govt.nz\/income-tax\/income-tax-for-businesses-and-organisations\/balance-dates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recognised balance date<\/a>\u2019) by the IRD. Eligible businesses can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ird.govt.nz\/income-tax\/income-tax-for-businesses-and-organisations\/balance-dates\/change-my-balance-date\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">apply to the IRD<\/a> for a \u2018recognised balance date\u2019 instead of 31 March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-paragraph-2-m-font-size\">If they don\u2019t apply, their end of financial year remains 31 March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-paragraph-2-m-font-size\">*Note: For employees, the financial year is always 1 April to 31 March.
