It sets out the duties employers and workers owe each other, how risks must be managed and what regulators can do when things go wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-paragraph-2-m-font-size\">Now, a significant reform is underway. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislation.govt.nz\/bill\/government\/2026\/244\/en\/latest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Health and Safety at Work Amendment Bill<\/a> was introduced to Parliament in February 2026 and after passing the first reading, has <a href=\"https:\/\/bills.parliament.nz\/v\/Bill\/e4103a7f-58ce-43c5-17a0-08de679093df?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">just closed to public submissions<\/a>.
