It can be taken continuously, or non-continuously with mutual agreement between the employer and employee.\n\nThe government will pay for all 2 weeks of GPPL, capped at $2,500 per week or a total of $5,000.\n<h2 id=\"skills-development-levy\">Skills Development Levy<\/h2>\nEvery month, employers are required to make 3 types of CPF contributions:\n<ol>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Both the employer and employee\u2019s share of CPF contributions<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong><em>The Skills Development Levy (SDL)<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">The employee\u2019s respective Self-Help Group<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nThe Skills Development Levy (SDL) is compulsory for all your employees, regardless of whether they are Singapore citizens or foreign nationals. The CPF Board collects the SDL on behalf of the SkillsFuture Singapore Agency.\n\nIf you\u2019re wondering what it\u2019s used for, the SDL amount collected is actually channeled to the Skills Development Fund, which is used to support workforce upgrading programmes and provides training grants to businesses, when they send their employees for training under the National Continuing Education Training system.\n\nThe levy payable for each employee is 0.25% of their total monthly wage \u2014 the minimum payable is $2 for employees earning less than $800 a month, and the maximum payable is $11.25 for employees earning more than $4,500 a month.\n\nThe total amount of SDL payable to the CPF board can be obtained by computing the SDL for each employee respectively, adding them all together, and rounding the total amount down to the nearest dollar.\n<h2 id=\"contributions-to-self-help-group-funds\">Contributions to self-help group funds<\/h2>\nAs mentioned above, contributions to self-help group funds are one of the additional contributions employers are required to make (on behalf of their employees), aside from the regular CPF contributions and Skills Development Levy.\n\nSo what are self-help groups (SHGs) exactly? SHGs were created to help less privileged and low-income households in the Chinese, Eurasian, Muslim, and Indian communities in Singapore. These non-profit SHGs generally offer programmes and assistance schemes to low-income families, single parents, youth at risk, and the elderly in the community, enabling them to maximise their own potential and strive for social mobility through self-help and mutual support.\n\nThere are a total of 4 SHGs in Singapore, and employees of the four different races in Singapore contribute to their respective SHGs:\n<ol>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>The Chinese Development Assistance Council (CDAC) Fund<\/strong>: for Chinese employees who are Singaporeans and PRs;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>The Euroasian Community Fund (ECF):<\/strong> for Eurasian employees who are Singaporeans and PRs;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>The Mosque Building and Mendaki Fund (MBMF):<\/strong> for Muslim employees who are Singaporeans, PRs, and foreign employees on Employment Pass (EP) or Work Permits; and<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>The Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA) Fund:<\/strong> for Indian employees who are Singaporeans, PRs and foreign employees on Employment Pass (EP).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nContributions are based on an employee\u2019s race or religion, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpf.gov.sg\/employer\/employer-obligations\/contributions-to-self-help-groups\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">contribution rates differ for each SHG<\/a> \u2014 they are also dependent on an employee\u2019s salary amount.\n\nSince Singapore is a multiracial country, some employees might have \u2018double-barrelled\u2019 race stated on their NRIC, like Indian-Chinese. In instances like this, employers should take the first race displayed to determine their contribution to SHGs.\n\nHowever, employers also have to take note that Muslim employees need to contribute to the Mosque Building and Mendaki Fund (MBMF) regardless of what their race states.
