informed about some of the legislative changes and decisions that impact people management, so you can navigate them with ease.\n\n<strong>Australia<\/strong>\n\nEmployers in Australia are reminded of their positive duty to eliminate sexual harassment, sex discrimination, and sex-based harassment in the workplace.\n\nRecent cases such as, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.workplacelaw.com.au\/posts\/employer-penalised-for-inadequate-response-to-workplace-sexual-harassment\">Kumari v Bervar Pty Ltd<\/a>, focus on the <a href=\"https:\/\/hrconnect.com.au\/blog\/new-sexual-harassment-and-sex-discrimination-laws\/\">2022 amendments to the Sex Discrimination Act<\/a>. The case highlights that employers should know and understand their obligations to minimise these risks in the workplace. It also suggests that employers should have procedures that clearly detail how these claims will be responded to and the reasonable steps they will take.\n\n<strong>New Zealand<\/strong>\n\nThere are two Fair Pay Agreements (<strong>FPA<\/strong>) updates in New Zealand that employers should be across:\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The FPA application to initiate bargaining was approved by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (<strong>MBIE<\/strong>) on 27 March 2023, and covers bus and coach drivers, as well as cleaners working in the interurban, rural, and urban bus transport industry. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mbie.govt.nz\/dmsdocument\/26281-fpa01-003-2022-public-notice-of-approval-bus-transport-industry-pdf\">Learn more<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The MBIE is also considering a security guard\/officer FPA application received on 29 March 2023 which covers employees who physically protect, watch, or guard property (including cash and other valuables) and\/or who carry out crowd control duties.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>United Kingdom<\/strong>\n\nTo provide better support to employees, the UK government announced two updates to statutory pay and Statutory Sick Pay:\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Effective from 2 April 2023, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fusionbusiness.org.uk\/statutory-rate-changes-2023-2024\/\">statutory pay<\/a> for maternity, paternity, adoption, shared parental, and parental bereavement increased from \u00a3156.66 to \u00a3172.48 per week<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Effective from 6 April 2023, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/statutory-sick-pay\/what-youll-get#:~:text=You%20can%20get%20%C2%A3109.40,except%20for%20the%20first%203.\">Statutory Sick Pay<\/a> increases from \u00a399.35 to \u00a3109.40 per week.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>\nIn addition, a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/bank-holidays\">Bank Holiday<\/a> was announced for 8 May 2023 to mark the coronation of King Charles III. Employers are reminded that whilst many receive a day off work on a Bank Holiday, there is no statutory right to paid leave and any entitlement to time off or extra pay depends on the terms of an employee\u2019s contract.\n\nLastly, the <a href=\"https:\/\/lordslibrary.parliament.uk\/research-briefings\/lln-2023-0017\/#:~:text=The%20amendments%20would%20provide%20that,%2C%20religious%20or%20social%E2%80%9D%20matters.\">Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) Bill<\/a> is currently in its second reading. The aim of the Bill is to have a specific approach that all employers have to take with sexual harassment cases. It imposes a new duty on employers to take all reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace.
