First, the Swedish buy now pay later fintech powerhouse Klarna <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/business-61562651\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced plans to cut staff and impose a hiring freeze<\/a>. Then, American tech giant Twitter became the talk of the town after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2022\/may\/12\/twitter-elon-musk-hiring-freeze\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announcing a hiring freeze<\/a> as the company prepares for a $44bn takeover by Elon Musk. It\u2019s sweeping across Silicon Valley too: from Tesla, to Meta, to Snapchat, Uber and Netflix, all announcing their intent to implement hiring freezes, and\/or cuts on their workforce numbers.\n\nIn fact, it\u2019s happening outside tech too. The UK government\u2019s plans to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.civilserviceworld.com\/news\/article\/anger-at-plans-for-fast-stream-pause-as-part-of-civil-service-staff-cuts\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">halt their flagship Fast Stream graduate programme<\/a> were leaked when Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced intentions to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-politics-61432498\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cut up to 91,000 civil service jobs<\/a> to save money.
