And they keep expanding their footprint as managers. They\u2019re deemed naturally autonomous and independent. However, there is also a belief that Gen X are quite cynical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/zety.com\/blog\/generation-x-in-the-workplace\">Studies have also found that<\/a> when looking for an ideal role:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>28% look for a strong work-life balance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>26% want an open and honest work environment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>23% are interested in professional development and collaboration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These are all characteristics we see resonate over every generational group. The same study also found that 71% of Gen X respondents wanted their work to be meaningful while 84% wanted job satisfaction from their day to day. This puts to rest the commonly held perception that they work for money and come home to switch off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Millennials in the workplace<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>MIllennials got a lot of stick \u2013 until Gen Z came along that is. Stick for being the \u201ceverybody wins\u201d generation, narcissistic and self-entitled. However, they\u2019re also considered pragmatic, determined and perhaps a smidge idealistic. They are early adopters of technology and look for the same adoption in their places of work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Right now, Millennials account for the largest section of the global workforce, with projections using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/millennials-75-workforce-2025-ever-anita-lettink\/\">UN data<\/a> showing that in 2020 they were accountable for 41% of it. They look to be the largest section of the workforce into the future, with the same data showing they\u2019ll represent 39% in 2025 and 37% in 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deloitte.com\/global\/en\/issues\/work\/genzmillennialsurvey.html\">A Deloitte study<\/a> tells us when Millennials are searching for a job:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>39% look for a good work-life balance offering<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>29% look for learning and development opportunities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>27% are interested in high salaries and benefits<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>26% want their work to be meaningful<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Millenials largest impact on their workplaces have been finding new ways to openly communicate with their teams, emphasising and getting behind company culture and redesigning the way workplaces operate efficiently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gen Z in the workplace<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Generation Z are the youngest, most <a href=\"https:\/\/employmenthero.com\/uk\/resources\/diversity-inclusion-handbook\/\">diverse<\/a> and most well-educated workers to ever enter the talent pool. We recently <a href=\"https:\/\/employmenthero.com\/uk\/resources\/gen-z-in-the-workplace-report\/\">ran a study on Gen Z in the workplace<\/a>, and their approach to work builds on some of the qualities we see in Millennials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They\u2019re currently quite fickle in their approach to work, with the older amongst them finding more job satisfaction. In 2020, 30% of Gen Zers were looking for new work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their main drivers are work-life balance, a positive culture and convenience. Issues can arise with their employers when there are misaligned on expectations around money, job flexibility or support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They\u2019re incredibly entrepreneurial and often opt to start their own business, or freelance in order to have their needs met. Being the most well-educated generation, they\u2019re a savvy bunch looking for investment within a strong culture that promotes self-care, health and wellbeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some other statistics to consider are that 68% of Gen Z (at the time of our survey) were living at home, with only 16% of them in full-time work and 19% of them having never worked previously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also found that 75% of the generation were planning to leave their job within the next two years, and that 49% wanted out within a year, the main reason for the move being to develop their growth and learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So unlike previous generations, they aren\u2019t feeling as though loyalty to one company is going to take them to their career goals.
