We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven organisation while developing your accounting expertise across a diverse range of financial activities and programmes.
Reporting to the CFO and working closely with the Finance Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of our financial records and supporting efficient financial operations across the organisation.

Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Maintain the fixed asset register, process depreciation journals, and support month-end accounting activities.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, journals, and ensure financial records are accurate and well supported.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes across the organisation.
- Support annual audits, compliance requirements, grant accountability, and internal financial controls.
- Provide accounts payable support, including payment verification and coverage during team absences.
- Deliver financial administration and reporting support across programmes, including Home Repair, ReStore, and Progressive Home Ownership initiatives.
- Process donor transactions in Salesforce, reconcile donation records, and coordinate donor tax receipt administration.
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar accounting role
- Strong reconciliation, journal processing, and general ledger experience
- Experience using accounting systems, preferably Xero
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience within the not-for-profit sector, Salesforce, or retail finance operations will be highly regarded
