This role will be place-based – southern catchment of CQID.

Summary:

The First Nation Community Officer for the Southern Region plays a vital role in supporting and enhancing the wellbeing of First Nation communities in Hervey Bay, Queensland. This position involves working collaboratively with community members, local organisations, and government bodies to promote social care initiatives and ensure culturally appropriate services are delivered effectively. The officer will act as a liaison, advocate, and resource for the community, fostering positive relationships and facilitating access to essential services.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage with First Nation community members to identify their needs and concerns.
  • Develop and implement community programs that promote health, education, and social wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with local organisations and government agencies to enhance service delivery.
  • Provide advocacy and support for individuals and families in accessing social care services.
  • Organise community events and workshops to raise awareness of available resources.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports on community engagement and program outcomes.
  • Facilitate training and capacity-building initiatives for community members.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in social work, community development, or a related field.
  • Experience working with First Nation communities or in social care settings.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse groups.
  • Knowledge of cultural protocols and practices relevant to First Nation communities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
