VENUE OVERVIEWÌýÌý The Concourse isÌýa state-of-the-artÌýhub for culture, entertainment, information, retail,ÌýfoodÌýand beverage, opened in Chatswood in September 2011.ÌýÌý Century VenuesÌýoperatesÌýas the manager of The Concourse, responsible for the Concert Hall, the Theatre and The Lounge.ÌýÌý

About the Role:ÌýAsÌýa Senior Lighting Technician at Century, you willÌýbe responsible forÌýdesigning, setting up, focusing, programming,ÌýoperatingÌýand maintaining lighting systems for a wide range of live events and venue presentations. This is a senior lighting position requiring more than standard live music,ÌýcomedyÌýor basic stage lighting experience. The successful candidate will need a strong understanding of theatre lighting,ÌýcolourÌýscience, layered lighting, fixture placement, focus, balance,ÌýtextureÌýand visual storytelling. A background in theatre lighting is preferred, while a strong film lighting background may also be considered if supported by relevant technical and creative experience. You will work closely with directors, production teams, touring crews, venueÌýstaffÌýand other technical departments to ensure that every performance is visually strong, technicallyÌýreliableÌýand delivered to a professional standard.ÌýÌý

Required:ÌýÌý Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a performing artsÌýcentre, theatre, productionÌýcompanyÌýor related industry is considered necessary.ÌýÌý Ability toÌýoperateÌýand program ETC lighting consoles.ÌýÌý Demonstrated experience and high-level understanding of technical equipment used in performance spaces of this kind.ÌýÌý Strong understanding of theatre lighting principles, includingÌýcolour, focus, beam control, layered lighting, cueing,ÌýbalanceÌýand visual composition.ÌýÌý Experience across multiple lighting environments, including theatre, dance, orchestral performance, corporate events, liveÌýmusicÌýand venue lighting.ÌýÌý Film lighting experience may be considered a suitable substitute where the candidateÌýdemonstratesÌýstrong knowledge ofÌýcolourÌýscience, modelling, contrast, texture, exposure,ÌýatmosphereÌýand practical lighting control.ÌýÌý Physical fitness and ability to comfortably work at heights.ÌýÌý ExpertÌýlevelÌýcompetency on in-house equipment relevant to the department.ÌýÌý Ability to work as an all-rounder across lighting, staging, basic audio, venueÌýsystemsÌýand general production support whereÌýrequired.ÌýÌý

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESÌýÌý Working under the direction of the Production Manager, the Senior Lighting Technician has the following responsibilities:ÌýÌý Plan and carry out preventative and ad hoc maintenance across the site both in and outside your department.ÌýÌý Provide leadership,ÌýtrainingÌýand development to the casual staff.ÌýÌý Maintain,ÌýprepareÌýand collate equipmentÌýrequiredÌýfor upcoming events including technical equipment, lighting fixtures, cabling, control equipment,ÌýfurnitureÌýand consumables.ÌýÌý Operate technical equipment within your department at a high professionalÌýlevel, andÌýbe willing to work andÌýoperateÌýacross all departments as required.ÌýÌý Program, focus andÌýoperateÌýlighting systems for a wide range of events, ensuring a high standard of visual presentation and technical reliability.ÌýÌý Support touring productions, hirers and internal teams with lighting plans, equipment preparation, focus sessions, show operation and technical problem solving.ÌýÌý Apply strong lighting judgement acrossÌýcolour, balance, texture, layered lighting, fixture choice, stageÌýcoverageÌýand audience sightlines.ÌýÌý Be highly flexibleÌýinÌýhours of work.ÌýÌý Provide feedback to the Production Manager with regards to improving processes, increasing efficiency, and reliability within the technical departmentÌýin order toÌýbetter achieve outcomes for Century Venues and our clients.ÌýÌý

SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLSÌýÌý

  1. Extensive technical experience atÌýa high levelÌýof yourÌýdepartmentÌýspecialisation.ÌýÌý
  2. Lighting extensive knowledge and experience in:ÌýÌý ETC Eos consoles and software.ÌýÌý A range of lighting protocols (DMX512,ÌýsACN, RDM, Art-NetÌýetc).ÌýÌý Power distribution, dimming systems andÌýtheir controlÌýin similar sized venues.ÌýÌý Architectural lighting systems and their integration with performance systems (AMX, C-bus, DMX GatewaysÌýetc).ÌýÌý Best-practice maintenance procedures for equipment commonly found in performance spaces.ÌýÌý Basic fault-finding skills including cable repair/termination and soldering.ÌýÌý Integration of pixel map and video distribution, LED videoÌýwallsÌýand projection.ÌýÌý Remote control integration likeÌýQLab, MIDI, OSC etc.ÌýÌý Colour science,ÌýcolourÌýtemperature,ÌýcolourÌýrendering, fixture matching and the creative use ofÌýcolourÌýacross theatre, dance,ÌýmusicÌýand corporate environments.ÌýÌý Layered lighting design, including key light, back light, side light, specials,Ìýpracticals, texture,ÌýatmosphereÌýand architectural integration.ÌýÌý Theatre lightingÌýmethodology, including script-based cueing, blocking, focus notes, stage picture, front wash, side light, back light,ÌýspecialsÌýand cue timing.ÌýÌý FixtureÌýselection, beam shaping, shuttering, gobo use, haze, diffusion,ÌýfocusÌýand visual composition.ÌýÌý
  3. Experience in the delivery of live production in a similar genre and size to The Concourse.ÌýE.g.Ìýmusical theatre, orchestral and chamber music, contemporary dance, drama, ballet, contemporary music, comedy, corporateÌýmeetingsÌýand product launches.ÌýÌý
  4. Good general knowledge of all aspects of technical production and keeping that knowledge current with industry standards and practices.ÌýÌý
  5. Proven abilityÌýinÌýthe supervision of technical staff.ÌýÌý
  6. Ability to work beyond a narrow lightingÌýspecialisationÌýand support the venue as a practical all-rounder whenÌýrequired.ÌýÌý
  7. A strong theatrical lighting background is preferred. A strong film lighting background may be considered where itÌýdemonstratesÌýadvanced understanding ofÌýcolour, shape, contrast, texture, mood,ÌýdepthÌýand layered light.ÌýÌý
