Description

We are seeking a Children’s Counsellor & Group Facilitator within our Counselling team! This role is a SCHADS Level 6 ($113,403 – $118,441) pro rata, pay point dependent of experience, plus 12% superannuation and up to $15,990 salary packaging. ThisÌýis a permanentÌýpart-timeÌýroleÌý(0.8 FTE).Ìý

About the roleÌý

The Children’s Counsellor & Group Facilitator willÌýbe responsible forÌýa range of child-focused and trauma-informed counselling and group work interventions. Supporting children and their families who have experienced family violence, this role must ensure that all therapeutic activities are adaptive and responsive toÌýidentifiedÌýneeds.Ìý

Key responsibilities:Ìý

  • Undertake assessments of children and their families toÌýdetermineÌýindividual needsÌý
  • Provide therapeutic counselling interventions to children, including using creative modalities such as Art Therapy and Play Therapy (occasionally providing outreach at schools whenÌýrequired)Ìý
  • Undertake ongoing family violence risk assessments of children and their familiesÌý
  • Provide tailored group and/or single session child-centered and trauma-informed family counselling interventions and counsellingÌý
  • In consultation with the counselling team leader, plan, co-facilitate and evaluate therapeutic groups for childrenÌý
  • Actively promote the therapeutic groups to services that work with familiesÌýimpactedÌýby family violence to enhance referralsÌý
  • In conjunction with the team leader, activelyÌýmonitorÌýthe performance standards against DFFH requirements to ensure ongoing accreditation for the programÌý
  • MaintainÌýaccurateÌýcase files and associated documents/notes to meet all auditing requirementsÌý
  • Ensure program data (IRIS) is collected to inform program planning and to meet DFFH recording requirementsÌý
  • Provide secondary consultation and advocacy to external health,ÌýcommunityÌýand education services providersÌýregardingÌýthe developmental needs of childrenÌý

About youÌý

EssentialÌý

  • Tertiary qualifications in a therapeutic discipline (such as Psychology, SocialÌýWorkÌýor related field)Ìý
  • Eligibility for AASW membership of other professional bodyÌý
  • Highly developed understanding of child development therapy, trauma-informed therapeuticÌýpracticeÌýand attachment theoryÌý
  • Relevant working experience within a comparable roleÌý
  • Substantial direct service delivery experience (assessment & therapeutic interventions)Ìý
  • Demonstrated understanding of legislation, theory and practice relating to provisions of family violence services to women and childrenÌý
  • Demonstrated commitment to the provision of high-quality services, feministÌýpolicyÌýand practiceÌý
  • Experience in development andÌýmaintainingÌýeffective working relationshipsÌý
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skillsÌý
  • The ability to work with minimal direction while acceptingÌýa high levelÌýof responsibility and accountabilityÌý
  • Sound computer skills including data base applicationsÌý
  • Working with Children checkÌý
  • Police check (and international police check if lived overseas for a year or more in the last 10 years)Ìý
  • Current VIC driver’s licenseÌý

DesiredÌý

  • Clinical training in creative modalities for children including Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Drama Therapy. Dance/movement Therapy and/or Play TherapyÌý
  • Experience with guiding peers and externals partiesÌýregardingÌýinformation sharing and promotionÌý
