We are currently recruiting for either an engineering underwriter or assistant underwriter. Please review both requirements below and state your preference in your application.
As a Engineering Underwriter you will maintain and develop strong business relationships, make quality underwriting decisions and deliver high quality service to our brokers. You will be responsible for underwriting key broking partners Engineering business, including the responsibility for making underwriting recommendations and decisions within the referral process. You will have a demonstrated knowledge of industries and the insurance market, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, proven sales ability and a passion for delivering excellent customer service and building relationships.
Key responsibilities and duties will include (but are not limited to):
- Review of Engineering risks and complete all necessary underwriting duties.
- Complete premium calculations for new business and renewals through the premium rating systems and guidelines.
- Issue and review of policy wordings as required.
- Identify referral triggers according to HDI Global SE, Australia Underwriting Guidelines and local branch underwriting authority, and escalate as necessary with recommendations.
- Operate within the delegated underwriting license and underwriting guidelines.
- Work with HDI’s Risk Engineers to improve clients risk profiles by discussing and following up risk recommendations.
- Work with the team to ensure that business goals are met.
- Develop and foster existing and new broker relationships, along with client relationships
Skills and Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working in Engineering Underwriting, consulting engineering or construction;
- Ability to work as part of a team and autonomously;
- Demonstrated ability to time manage and prioritise;
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal);
- Proven track record of delivering results and fostering relationships;
- High level of numeracy and computer literacy (Excel and MS Office);
- Relevant ANZIIF Qualifications desirable.
- Engineering degree qualification.
Assistant Engineering Underwriter:
You will be provided with training and guidance in developing your underwriting rationale and becoming an experienced member of our Engineering team. You should possess exceptional attention to detail and the ability to communicate across all levels of the organisation. If you have a genuine interest in risk management and insurance, are a motivated, proactive and professional individual, this is an excellent opportunity to be part of our team.Ìý
Duties will include (but not limited to)Ìý
- Assisting with the preparation of renewals, endorsements and new business, including calculations through the premium rating systems;Ìý
- Preparation, maintenance and overview of underwriting files and slips;Ìý
- Assisting the underwriters with reviewing quote opportunities, performing natural catastrophe reviews, assessing engineering reports and other documentation;Ìý
- Assisting with the monitoring of outstanding quotations and pending renewals, tracking and updating progress through maintenance of the renewal and quotation registers;Ìý
- Working with HDI’s Risk Engineers to improve clients risk profiles by discussing and following up risk recommendations;Ìý
- Understanding of HDI’s risk appetite and guidelines;
- Building relationships with HDI’s insurance partners including intermediaries and clients;Ìý
- Co-ordination of outstanding debtors and liaise with the Service Specialist team;Ìý
- General Administration and Underwriting Support.Ìý
Skills and ExperienceÌý
- Minimum 2 years general insurance or Engineering experience;Ìý
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) demonstrated in current role;Ìý
- High level of numeracy and computer literacy (Excel and MS Office).Ìý
