Ngurratjuta Wanka Wilurratja/Alturla Rinya Aboriginal Corporation (NWWAR) is a progressive Aboriginal Corporation that provides support to Aboriginal Communities of the Western Desert. In particular, NWWAR aims to deliver high quality services that meet the needs of these communities by supporting the transition of government services and programs to community control.

POSITION OVERVIEW – CHILD AND FAMILY CENTRE COORDINATOR

The Ngurratjuta Child and Family Centre is a hub providing a range of services to support families and children in Haasts Bluff, Papunya, and Mt Liebig, to enhance the well-being of children and families.

The centre supports and strives to enhance the well-being of children and families by offering connections and linking to services with respect to Early childhood education, Parenting support, Health and Social services.

NWWAR is seeking a new member to join the team to coordinate locally hired community members and work cohesively with other NWWAR service delivery teams to bring value in the day-to-day lives of people we serve, and overall organisation. This role will be an integral and essential part of overall team’s success with variety of responsibilities to be carried out, both on individual and team-levels.

ABOUT THE CORPORATION:

Ngurratjuta Wanka Wilurratja/Alturla Rinya Aboriginal Corporation was incorporated in 2023 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Ngurratjuta/Pmara Ntjarra Aboriginal Corporation (NPNAC).

NPNAC was incorporated in August 1985 under the Aboriginal Incorporations Act 1976 (Cth) before transitioning under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (Cth). NPNAC began as an association of communities deemed to have been affected by the oil and gas mining operations at Mereenie and Palm Valley. NPNAC provided a growing income base for the Member Communities, stimulating job opportunities and venture activities for members, while actively supporting community development activities and infrastructure improvements in Member Communities.

Across its 40 year history, Ngurratjuta has developed a portfolio of diverse investments and operated enterprises in a variety of industries, including accounting and business services, tourism and hospitality and retail. NPNAC’s core objective of supporting communities flows through to objectives of NWWAR being the delivery of high quality services and support for communities in transitioning services from government-designed and delivered to community-controlled and governed.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This role is an integral part of our service delivery team and will play a crucial role in implementing the initiatives on ground, to enhance the skills and the opportunities available to people on the communities in which we serve.

The role is one that demands a flexibility of approach, and someone well versed in life on a remote community and the challenges that community members face.

We are looking for candidates who would like to work as a part of the team to enhance the lives of community members. While previous experience would be great, we prioritise a great work ethic and the ability work on and become part of the community.

REPORTS TO: General Manager, Service Delivery

LOCATION: This role is based in one of our remote communities and will require some amount of travel to/from Alice Springs, Papunya, Mount Liebig and Haasts Bluff.

WORK HOURS: 37.5 hours per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting Need Assessment for families and coordinating referrals as required.
  • Program management, including planning, developing and implementing initiatives.
  • Recruitment and Training of Community Staff
  • Sustainability planning and implementation.
  • Overall Community Development and Support.
  • Meeting the data and compliance requirements associated with the role.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

You will have an understanding that the administrative element of the job is crucial, and you’ll also have:

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience in case management, ASQ-TRAK and/or ECSN.
  • Relevant experience, most likely from a social services background.
  • Experience of either living or working in remote communities and ability to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and experience in reporting.
  • A commitment to First Nations self-determination, community leadership and empowerment.
  • Experience working with and alongside First Nations communities creating strong, trusted relationships.
  • Managing staff members, preferably from remote communities.
  • Hold current Working With Children Check (Ochre Card) and willing to submit to National Police Check.

Additionally, you will have:

  • Good understanding of Local Decision-making or willing to learn post commencement in this role.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills – ability to work, build rapport and maintain effective relationships with clients, peers and relevant agencies from culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and workloads in line with the business priorities.
  • Self-motivation, along with the ability to demonstrate high level of professionalism, compliance and attention to details.
  • A good knowledge of, and willingness to comply with, Work, Health & Safety policies.
