At Silentium Defence, we’re driving innovation in passive surveillance technology across critical Defence and national security applications. Our systems enable covert, cost-effective, and comprehensive situational awareness — and we’re growing fast.
We’re looking for an FPGA Engineer who thrives on solving complex technical challenges and wants to play a meaningful role in delivering advanced capability that protects those who matter.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge passive radar systems, developing high-performance FPGA firmware that powers real-world Defence and national security outcomes. You’ll collaborate with talented engineers across hardware, systems, and software disciplines while
contributing to the evolution of our next-generation technology.
Your Opportunity
As an FPGA Engineer at Silentium Defence, you’ll support the development and testing of FPGA firmware used in our advanced passive radar systems, with a strong focus on Digital Signal Processing (DSP) applications.
You’ll work closely within multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver robust, scalable firmware solutions that meet project milestones and performance expectations. Over time, you’ll grow into a trusted subject matter expert within the organisation, helping shape the future direction of
FPGA development across our product portfolio.
In this role, you will:
- Develop and implement FPGA firmware aligned with system architecture and product
requirements
- Contribute to the design of scalable, adaptable, and reusable firmware solutions
- Implement and optimise Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms
- Perform verification and validation (V&V) using modelling, simulation, and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) techniques
- Integrate firmware with bespoke hardware platforms
- Investigate and resolve technical issues to ensure system reliability and performance
- Collaborate across engineering disciplines to deliver high-quality outcomes
- Maintain documentation and traceability to support quality and compliance requirements
- Drive continuous improvement in FPGA development practices and standards
About You
You’re a technically curious and detail-oriented engineer who enjoys building reliable systems and solving complex problems. You take ownership of your work, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and are motivated by delivering capability that makes a real-world impact.
You value teamwork, innovation, and integrity — and you’re driven to continuously learn and improve.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or similar
- 3– 8 years’ experience in FPGA development
- Experience with VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog
- Experience with FPGA development tools such as Xilinx Vivado (Intel/Quartus
desirable)
- Experience performing verification and validation using modelling and simulation
- Experience integrating firmware with hardware systems
- Eligibility to obtain an NV1 Security Clearance (Australian citizenship required)
Highly desirable:
- Background in Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
- Experience with high-speed serial interfaces (e.g., PCIe Gen3, 100Gb Ethernet)
- Experience working with radar, communications, or electronic warfare systems
- Familiarity with embedded Linux or related toolchains (e.g., Vitis, Petalinux, Yocto)
- Experience using electronic test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers)
Why Join Silentium Defence
- Work on technology that directly supports Defence and national security
- Be part of a highly skilled, collaborative engineering team
- Contribute to innovative, real-world capability development
- Grow your technical expertise and career in a fast-growing organisation
- Make a meaningful impact in a purpose-driven environment
