Description

The South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West, Great South, Upper wheatbelt and Peel Regions of Western Australia. SWAMS delivers a wide range of Services including: GP Clinics, Primary Health Care, Counselling, NDIS and community host various programs. SWAMS has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development.

SWAMS is dedicated to enhancing employment opportunities and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This position is designated under Section 50 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA), and as such, only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.

SWAMS plays a crucial role in delivering services to the South West community, aiming to reduce the number of Aboriginal children entering care. By providing culturally appropriate services to at-risk families in partnership with Key Assets Australia, we are deeply committed to advocating for the safety of Aboriginal children, ensuring they remain at home with their families. We are looking for a Senior Case Worker to be a part of our team.

About the Role:

As a Senior Case Worker you will be responsible for the supervision of the Case Workers; providing leadership and management to ensure the delivery of your program’s outcomes. Your responsibilities include managing staffing, rosters, and referrals, as well as conducting compliance checks to ensure the quality of work. The Senior Caseworkers will manage a small caseload, supervise caseworkers, and work intensively with referred families. You will build positive relationships to address issues and support families in the service. Responsibilities include tracking family progress, assisting with home visits and complex situations, and collaborating with other Senior Case Workers to adjust support levels. You will also help caseworkers build support networks and referral systems, and ensure proper recording and reporting of client interactions to the Department of Communities.

About You:

Essential Criteria:

  • Knowledge of the Children and Community Services Act 2004.
  • Basic knowledge of the developmental needs of children and young people.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal People, and the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with communities, families, children, and young people.
  • Strong written skills, including report writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage own time and work resources.
  • Ability to liaise with relevant government and non-government professionals, community groups, services, and agencies and present and report information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated research, analytical and problem-solving skills, in relation to case management.
  • Valid and current Driver’s License
  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check
  • Valid Employee Working with Children Check
  • Valid and current NDIS Workers Screening Check
