Overview of Position:

To Organise and empower members at the workplace. ToÌýoperateÌýas a member ofÌýaÌýteamÌýthatÌýpromotesÌýand encouragesÌýmembers to acquire and/or possess the appropriate advice, knowledge, skills, cohesion, commitment and resolve to advance and protect their economic, social,ÌýpoliticalÌýand industrial interests.ÌýThis positionÌýwillÌýrequireÌýtravelÌýintra-state.Ìý

Summary:Ìý

To Organise and empowerÌýmembers at the workplace. To operate as a member of a team that promotes and encourages members toÌýacquireÌýand/orÌýpossessÌýtheÌýappropriate advice, knowledge, skills, cohesion, commitment and resolve to advance and protect their economic, social,ÌýpoliticalÌýand industrial interests. This position will require travel intra-state.Ìý

Responsibilities:Ìý

  • Recruit new members to the union according to recruitment targets. Walk through Council sites recruiting new members.Ìý
  • Support members to become activists within the union.Ìý
  • Encourage andÌýfacilitateÌýunion members toÌýparticipateÌýinÌýunion campaigns and activities.Ìý
  • ProvideÌýbasic advice on industrial issues, unionÌýpoliciesÌýand services to members, after consultation with other union officers if necessary.Ìý
  • Lead Enterprise Agreement negotiations on behalf of The Services Union.Ìý
  • Communicate with members, delegates,ÌýactivistsÌýand other union staff both verbally and in writing, about theÌýobjectives, actions and progress ofÌýcampaigns and other union activities.Ìý
  • Collect and collate information for the purpose of mapping delegate and membership structures. Update files and details on members,ÌýdelegatesÌýand industrial issues whenÌýnecessary.Ìý
  • Participate in and support broader union activities.Ìý

Qualifications:Ìý

  • Demonstrated skills and experience organising a membership base, or a demonstrated ability to rapidlyÌýacquireÌýsuch experience and skills.Ìý
  • Ability toÌýoperate as a member of a team.Ìý
  • Strong communication skills.Ìý
  • Strong organisational skills.Ìý
  • Excellent writtenÌýand oral skills, including the ability to speak confidently to individuals, small groups and large audiences.Ìý
  • Self-motivation andÌýthe ability to work autonomously as required.Ìý
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to unionism principles and values.Ìý
  • Possession of a current Queensland driver’s license.Ìý
  • Eligibility to obtain Right of Entry permits.Ìý
