About the Program
The primaryobjectiveof the Family Preservation Program is to keep children safe at home with their families, and prevent removal, placement in out of home care, and future contact with the child protection system. Family preservation also supports children and families to achieve wider social benefits, including better education attainment and improved health and wellbeing outcomes.
‘ęFamilies Together” is a framework within this program. It is voluntary and aims to build on a family’s strengths and capabilities to respond to their children’s needs and to create a safe and nurturing home. At Veritas House, we deliver a range ofsupportswithin this framework to promote parenting skills, family functioning, child development, as well as practical support to help create a safe home environment.
About the role
This role is a full timePermanentposition basedfromeither our Bathurst or Orange office, with regular travel between offices asrequired.
The Families Together Caseworkerworks alongside families toprovide community-based support to families experiencing challenges that mayimpactthe safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
Through consistent outreach and relationship-based engagement, the role supports families to build on existing strengths, strengthen parenting capacity, and create safer, more stable home environments.Support is delivered in a way that is responsive to each family’s background, values, and lived experience,recognisingthat families engage with services differently and may require flexible, culturallyappropriate approachesto feel safe and understood.
Some of your core responsibilities will include;
- Provide outreach-based, relationship-focused case work to families through regular home visits and community engagement to improve child safety and wellbeing.
- Build strong, respectful relationships with families, using astrengths-based and trauma-informed approach to support positive change.
- Conduct holistic assessments and develop collaborative, goal-oriented case plans that address family needs and risks.
- Deliver practical parenting support, guidance, and skill-building to strengthen family functioning and parenting capacity.[
- Coordinate services and referrals, working closely with partner agencies to ensure families access appropriatesupports.
- Monitor child safety, respond to risk, and fulfil mandatory reporting requirements in line with legislation andorganisationalpolicy.
- Maintainaccuratecase documentation, contribute to outcome reporting, and activelyparticipatein team collaboration and continuous improvement

Selection Criteria
Essential Criteria:
- Minimum of Diploma qualified in Community Services, Early Childhood, Disability or similar.
- Sound knowledge of the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1988 and Mandatory reporting requirements;
- At least 2 years’ experience in case work, withdemonstratedexperience in developing and implementing realistic, goal-oriented case plans thatprioritisechild safety and wellbeing;
- Demonstratedcommittmentto family preservation, with the ability to support families to safely keep children in their care and prevent entry into Out of Home care.
- Demonstratedability toprioritisea high volume of administration work and the day-to-day case management of the children and families on your case load.
- Demonstratedunderstanding of the impact of trauma and adverse childhood experience onbehaviour, development, attachment, and overall wellbeing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills withanability to create and strengthen working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
Desirable
· Experience in early intervention or family preservation programs.
· Familiarity with outcome measurement tools and reporting systems
